The "bid scale" can be seen by clicking on the question mark icon next to Bid Increment. Next, click Confirm Bid and the software will then show the bid amount on the next screen before actually placing the bid. Finally, click Place bid. If you are the winning bidder a green banner will show that you are the current high bidder. You may immediately be out bid by a Max bid from another bidder and a red banner will show that you have been out bid. And if you choose you may continue to bid in the same way until you are the winner.
